Government is thinking of accompanying an already on-the-way stadium project in Migori County with a sports academy. The stadium is being built to have a seating capacity of 10,000 while the academy is expected to act as a hub for training future talents in sports, according to the announcement of Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya.

During his visit to the stadium on Tuesday, Mvurya reported that the work that is at 40 per cent completion is likely to be concluded by the end of the following year. He further noted that the facility with the academy would go a long way in grooming young sporting talent in the region.

“The government remains committed to bringing the Migori Stadium to the people and ensuring it becomes a center for talent identification and nurturing. The sports academy will not only help us achieve this vision but will also provide our youth with a platform for further training and experience,” Mvurya said.

The CS was on the field with Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko when conducting the survey, the two leaders being on the same page as to the extent of the work done and attributing the smooth progress to the good coordination between the national and county governments.

Now, the stadium in Migori is slated to be the venue of both local and international sports events. This would be a great leap forward not only for sports but for the local economy as well.
