The national government has officially launched a major overseas employment initiative targeting over 4,000 youth from Kenya’s Coastal region under the ‘Kazi Majuu’ program. The initiative, aimed at addressing youth unemployment, will see successful applicants deployed to various job opportunities in Dubai.
Hundreds of hopefuls braved heavy rains to attend the recruitment drive in Malindi, Kilifi County, seeking to secure roles ranging from boda-boda operators and security guards to office assistants, gardeners, construction workers, and hospitality staff such as waiters and waitresses.
Speaking at the launch, Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection, Dr. Alfred Mutua, emphasized the government’s commitment to creating sustainable employment for Kenyan youth through international partnerships.
He noted that boda-boda operators recruited through the program would earn up to KSh 80,000 monthly, while other positions would attract salaries starting from KSh 60,000 and below.“We are opening new doors for our young people. This is not just a job opportunity; it is a chance for them to transform their lives and contribute meaningfully to their families and the economy,” said Dr. Mutua.
Applicants without passports were still permitted to apply, with the CS assuring them that the government will fast-track passport processing through the e-citizen platform within three days.
Among those expressing gratitude was Ngala Karisa from Gahaleni, who described the initiative as a “life-changing opportunity.” Susan Albright, who secured a position as an office assistant, said it was her first breakthrough after years of job hunting.
Another successful candidate, Racheal Songoro, who landed a cleaning job, shared her excitement: “My dream is now within reach. I will use this chance to uplift myself and contribute to national development.”
The ‘Kazi Majuu’ program is expected to not only ease the burden of youth unemployment but also enhance skills transfer and promote the welfare of Kenyan migrant workers abroad.
