The government has dismissed concerns over challenges in its foreign labour mobility programme, affirming its success in creating overseas employment opportunities for Kenyan youth.
Labour Principal Secretary Shadrack Mwadime stated that the initiative has enabled hundreds of young Kenyans to secure jobs in various countries over the past few months. He was speaking at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) while seeing off a group of 30 Kenyans heading to the United Arab Emirates for work.”The Government’s foreign labour mobility initiative has been successful in sending hundreds of youth abroad for work.
Just yesterday, I flagged off 30 youth to Dubai,” said Mwadime. He added that the programme not only offers jobs but also equips participants with crucial knowledge of international work procedures through pre-departure training. This, he said, ensures that Kenyan workers are adequately prepared for the demands of foreign employment.
Mwadime underscored the initiative’s role in addressing the country’s unemployment crisis, which he noted affects at least five million Kenyans. He also highlighted that deployments have expanded beyond the Gulf region to include Western Europe.
The foreign labour mobility programme is part of the government’s broader efforts to create employment opportunities for Kenyan youth and tap into the global labour market.
