The Ministry of Youth Affairs and the Creative Economy, in collaboration with the World Bank, is set to roll out a skills development initiative aimed at empowering over 100,000 young people with digital skills.

The program, announced by Youth Affairs Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, seeks to equip youths with essential digital competencies, enabling them to tap into income-generating opportunities in the fast-evolving digital economy.

According to Mvurya, the initiative will not only provide digital training but also offer mentorship and apprenticeship opportunities. Trainees will be placed in key institutions to gain hands-on experience and enhance their career prospects.“The digital space presents immense opportunities for young people, and this program is designed to ensure they are well-equipped to compete in the global job market,” said Mvurya.

With youth unemployment remaining a pressing issue in Kenya, the partnership between the government and the World Bank is expected to play a crucial role in bridging the skills gap and creating sustainable employment opportunities.

The program is part of the government’s broader agenda to harness technology and innovation as key drivers of economic growth.
