President William Ruto’s senior economic advisor, Moses Kuria, has attributed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s political downfall to his own missteps.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Kuria expressed disappointment in Gachagua, accusing him of failing to honor commitments made with President Ruto and choosing public confrontation over patience and dialogue.

“Even in homes, businesses, and government, things are not always rosy. Disagreements are normal, but just a little patience and engagement would have gone a long way. He was in a privileged position, chairing cabinet committees, and yet he scored an own goal,” Kuria said.

The former Trade Cabinet Secretary argued that Gachagua should have waited for at least four or five years before publicly disagreeing with the President.

“I feel embarrassed to be associated with a community that insists on leading rather than waiting for its turn. Rigathi Gachagua was the senior-most leader from our community, representing 10 million people. He should have exercised patience,” Kuria noted.

Kuria also commented on reports of Gachagua planning to launch his own political party by the end of the month, stating, “While others might be excited, I am not. This is not the direction we should be taking as a community.”

Despite their differences, Kuria maintained that Gachagua remained a friend and that he had initially opposed the impeachment motion against the former DP. However, he admitted that circumstances eventually forced him to support Gachagua’s removal from office.

“Gachagua is my friend. We campaigned together, served in Parliament together, and he was my boss in Cabinet. I treated him with absolute respect, but unfortunately, he did not do himself many favors. Ultimately, I was left with no option but to support the impeachment,” Kuria added.
