Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has welcomed veteran media personality Evelyn Waithira Muithirania to the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) following her defection from the Jubilee Party.

Gachagua received Waithira at his Wamunyoro residence, where she announced her intention to contest for the Murang’a County Woman Representative seat in the 2027 General Election on a DCP ticket.

In a statement following the meeting, Gachagua described Waithira as a veteran media personality and noted that she had previously contested for the same position in the last General Election, finishing second with more than 100,000 votes.

Her entry into DCP comes as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, with aspirants seeking party tickets for various elective positions.

Gachagua Promises Free and Fair DCP Nominations

During the meeting, Gachagua assured Waithira that the party would conduct free and fair nominations, encouraging her to begin preparing for the internal party exercise.

He also urged the aspiring Murang’a Woman Representative to take an active role in the party’s membership registration drive as she builds support ahead of the nominations.

According to Gachagua, DCP nominations are scheduled for March 2027, providing aspirants with an opportunity to compete for the party’s tickets before the August General Election.

Waithira’s defection adds another political figure to DCP as Gachagua continues receiving aspirants and delegations at his Wamunyoro residence.

Her decision to seek the Murang’a Woman Representative seat on a DCP ticket also introduces a new political development in the county’s race for the parliamentary position.
