Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has slammed Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua for making what he termed as reckless and inflammatory remarks about potential violence in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Speaking on a televised panel, Senator Osotsi urged the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to disregard Gachagua—its former deputy party leader—who parted ways with the party after being ousted as Deputy President.

“Gachagua’s remarks on possible violence if the 2027 elections are rigged were irresponsible. He should focus on building his new party instead of fueling political anxiety,” said Osotsi.

Belgut MP Nelson Koech, also present on Citizen TV’s DayBreak show, dismissed Gachagua’s DCP as “a group of political rejects,” warning that the former DP’s rhetoric echoes the chaos of 2007 and should not be tolerated.

However, DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala defended Gachagua, claiming the remarks were “prophetic, not threatening.”

“He was simply imagining a possible future—not issuing threats,” Malala said.

The comments have sparked national debate about political responsibility and the importance of safeguarding peace ahead of the 2027 polls.
