Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday unveiled the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), naming a team of interim officials that includes seasoned political figures such as Maina Kamanda, Cleophas Malala, and Cate Waruguru.

Speaking at the DCP headquarters in Nairobi, Gachagua said the party was born out of the need to provide a platform that truly listens to and represents ordinary Kenyans. He declared June 4, 2025, as the official date for the party’s national launch.

“We finally have a political party that belongs to everyone. Our party slogan is: Please listen to Kenyans,” Gachagua told an enthusiastic crowd of supporters and allied leaders.

The launch attracted several high-profile leaders disillusioned with the current administration, among them former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi, who led a group of disgruntled allies to the event.

Gachagua emphasized that the DCP will be a people-first movement, committed to listening to citizens across the country. “I have always been a people’s person, listening to Kenyans from all corners of the country. I will spend the next two years travelling and engaging with citizens,” he said.

He added that insights gathered from the nationwide listening tour would form the basis of the party’s manifesto, which will focus on inclusivity and national unity.

“The party represents all Kenyans — youth, women, persons with disabilities, the marginalised, and every citizen who feels left behind. This is their home,” Gachagua said.

He further announced that the party has already received interest from aspiring candidates across the country, assuring them of a fair and transparent nomination process.

“This party has no favourites, no direct nominations. We believe in Let the People Decide,” he stated.
