Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has officially booked the Kasarani Stadium Gymnasium as the venue for the much-anticipated public unveiling of his new political outfit, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
In a letter addressed to the stadium management, DCP’s interim Secretary General Hezron Obaga confirmed the reservation, describing the event as a “people-centered political reawakening” aimed at ushering in a new era in Kenya’s political landscape.
According to the correspondence, the party has received an official invoice of Sh3.7 million, which will cater for the venue hire, catering levies, exclusive branding rights, VIP suite access, live media coverage, cleaning, and exhibition spaces.
“The event is expected to host approximately 5,000 attendees, including party members, supporters, guests, and members of the press,” the letter read. “We plan to use the facility for speeches, performances, and interactive sessions aimed at unveiling our vision, manifesto, and leadership to the Kenyan public.”
This comes just weeks after Gachagua hosted a high-profile event in Nairobi’s Lavington area on May 15, where he unveiled the party name, slogan, logo, and interim leadership. Though widely viewed as the party’s launch, insiders later clarified that the Lavington event was only a pre-launch, with the Kasarani function set to mark the official and symbolic debut of the party on the national stage.
“This is not just a party — it’s a movement,” said Gachagua. “We are here to restore dignity to wananchi, to listen to their concerns, and to offer a political vehicle that reflects their dreams, not the ambitions of disconnected cartels in power.”
The party’s interim leadership features a mix of seasoned politicians and new faces, including former UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala, former Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi, and ex-Laikipia Woman Representative Catherine Waruguru. DCP’s leadership structure boasts 49 representatives covering all 47 counties and the diaspora.
