President William Ruto has nominated Ahmed Issack Hassan as the new Chairperson of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).
Hassan, a seasoned advocate of the High Court, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served as the inaugural Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for five years from November 2011.
With a distinguished international career, Hassan has provided legal consultancy services across Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Namibia, and Afghanistan.
Alongside his appointment, President Ruto nominated a seven-member board to IPOA, comprising legal and civil society experts, including Ann Wanjiku Mwangi and Dr. Micah Onyiego Nyakego.
This diverse team has been entrusted with the critical task of ensuring police accountability and safeguarding high standards within law enforcement.
The new board is expected to strengthen IPOA’s role in investigating complaints against the police, enforcing accountability, and fostering public trust in the police force.
