The Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) has dismissed claims that any company has been granted exclusive rights to export Kenyan coffee, insisting that all dealers undergo a transparent licensing process.
In a statement on Tuesday, AFA clarified that the registration of coffee buyers, warehouse operators and agents is a continuous exercise conducted in line with the Crops Act, 2013 and the Coffee Regulations, 2019.
The law requires all licensed exporters to be gazetted, with a 14-day period for the public to raise objections.
For the 2025/26 financial year, AFA said it has licensed 152 dealers, including 126 buyers, 15 warehousemen and 11 agents.
The regulator stressed that only exporters whose names appear in the Kenya Gazette are recognized as legitimate, warning that any unlicensed exports constitute a breach of the law.
AFA urged stakeholders to rely on official communication from the Authority for updates on coffee licensing.
