The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has announced rulings and clarifications concerning promotion issues affecting clubs in the FKF Division one and Two League.
After a detailed review by the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee, a decision has been reached regarding the promotion of Riverside FC, formerly known as Kakuma United FC, to the FKF Division One League.
The Committee found that the name change from Kakuma United to Riverside FC was not conducted in line with FKF regulations and that the team’s promotion violated the principle of sporting merit, which requires that all promotions and relegations be determined strictly by on-field performance.
As a result, Riverside FC’s promotion has been nullified, and the FKF Competitions Department has been directed to reinstate Kakuma United FC in the official FKF Division One League fixtures for the 2025/26 season.
