The process of selecting new commissioners for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is set to conclude on Friday, marking a pivotal moment in the reconstitution of the electoral body ahead of the next general elections.
On Thursday, four candidates appeared before the selection panel to present their vision for credible and transparent elections in Kenya. Those interviewed were Vincent Kimutai Kimosop, Yufnalis Ndege Okubo, Anne Waithira Gachoya, and Michaels Ben Oliewo Onyango.
Each candidate outlined their qualifications and experience, emphasizing their commitment to upholding integrity, transparency, and professionalism within the commission. Their presentations reflected a deep understanding of the electoral process and the reforms needed to strengthen public trust in the IEBC.
The interviews, which have seen over 100 candidates vetted for positions of Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, and Commissioners, are a key part of the broader efforts to rebuild and restore confidence in the IEBC following recent calls for reforms.
The selection panel is expected to wrap up the interviews by Friday, after which a shortlist will be forwarded to the President for nomination and eventual vetting by Parliament.
The reconstitution of the IEBC comes at a critical time as the country prepares for the next electoral cycle, with stakeholders emphasizing the importance of a credible and independent electoral body to safeguard democracy.
