The Farmers Party has officially issued a 30-day notice of intention to exit the Kenya Kwanza Coalition, citing political betrayal, exclusion, and breach of trust.
In a letter dated April 7, 2025 and signed by Secretary General Simon Kamangu Secretary General’, addressed to the Kenya Kwanza leadership, the party’s National Executive Committee accused the coalition of failing to uphold the principles upon which their 2022 pre-election agreement was founded.
“We did so in good faith, with a shared vision of empowering our farmers and uplifting the lives of ordinary Kenyans,” the party stated. “However, it is with deep regret that we note a consistent pattern of dishonesty, political infidelity, and outright disregard for the Constitution and the Coalition Agreement.” Statement Read

The decision to leave comes in the wake of the recent broad-based government agreement signed between Kenya Kwanza and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), a move the Farmers Party claims was done unilaterally and without consulting constituent parties.
The Farmers Party, which joined Kenya Kwanza in March 2022, said its participation was driven by a commitment to champion agricultural reforms and push for farmer-centered policies. However, it now says those objectives have been sidelined.
“The unilateral decisions and lack of inclusivity within the coalition betray the trust that brought us together,” the statement noted.
The party now invokes Clause 8 of the Coalition Agreement, which outlines the process for termination.

The notice takes effect from the date of the letter, setting in motion a formal disengagement within 30 days.
This latest move adds to the growing unease within Kenya Kwanza, with murmurs of discontent among smaller parties feeling sidelined since the coalition assumed power.
This comes after Democratic party few months ago exited the coalition.
