Grief and outrage have gripped the families of Simon Yego, a Probox PSV operator, and 22-year-old Kipyatich after the two men were found dead under mysterious and gruesome circumstances.
The bodies of the two victims were discovered dumped in Rongai, near the border of Nakuru and Baringo counties, days after they were allegedly abducted in Elgeyo Marakwet County by unknown individuals on Friday. Family members say they lost contact with the two shortly after their disappearance.
According to the management of Nakuru County Mortuary, the bodies were brought in on Sunday. Preliminary observations indicate that the victims bore marks consistent with torture, raising suspicions of foul play.”We are devastated,” said a relative of one of the victims. “They left home like any other day, only for us to find them lifeless and discarded like criminals. We want justice.”
Local leaders and human rights activists have joined the call for a thorough investigation into the killings, demanding swift action from security agencies. “This is not just a criminal matter—it is a human rights concern,” said one activist during a press briefing in Nakuru.
Police have yet to issue a detailed statement regarding the incident, but sources indicate that investigations have begun, with officers collecting witness statements and reviewing CCTV footage from Elgeyo Marakwet and Rongai.
The incident has sparked fresh concerns over rising cases of abductions and extra-judicial killings in the region, with community members urging the government to step in and guarantee safety for all citizens.
As the bodies of Simon Yego and Kipyatich lie at the Nakuru County Mortuary, their families are left grappling with not just the pain of loss, but the unanswered question: Who killed their loved ones—and why?
