Women’s rights advocacy group EndFemicideKE has strongly condemned reports of rape and sexual assault that allegedly occurred during peaceful protests held across Kenya this week.

In a statement issued Thursday night, the group revealed it had received multiple reports of gender-based violence (GBV), not just in Nairobi but in several other parts of the country.

“This violence was not random, days before, media reports exposed plans by state-sponsored goons and insiders to weaponise GBV, targeting women to spread fear. ”the statement read.

EndFemicideKE described the attacks as brutal, coordinated, and political, and emphasized that violence against women cannot be treated as collateral damage during moments of national unrest.

“To any survivor: you are not alone please reach out for support via helplines such as 1195, Usikimye, or the Wangu Kanja Foundation”. the group said.

The organisation pledged to walk with survivors, continue the fight for justice, stating that such violence is a direct attack on the right to protest and exist safely.
