A total of 127,762 households in Embu County have registered for the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), according to Governor Cecily Mbarire.
This number, she noted, represents 21 percent of the county’s population, making it the sixth-highest registration rate in the country.
Governor Mbarire encouraged residents to maintain their enthusiasm for the program, emphasizing its success and potential to enhance healthcare delivery.
During her remarks at Mbui in Runyenjes Constituency, she highlighted that in the past six weeks, 1,500 patients admitted to Embu Level Five Hospital were able to leave without paying a single cent, thanks to their SHIF membership.
She also urged residents to disregard critics who are attempting to undermine the universal health plan.
“The main challenge facing the health scheme is negative criticism aimed at discouraging Kenyans from registering,” she said, encouraging locals to ignore detractors and support the initiative.
