Education stakeholders in the region of Kiambu have expressed their worries about the financial burden which is likely to be on parents and schools as the first cohort of Grade Ten learners is about to move on to senior school under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system in 2026.
The stakeholders are now requesting the government to solve the issues confronting the education sector which will not only guarantee a smooth transition but also help to revive the education. Their appeal comes at the same time as the celebrations over the release of the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results are happening all over the country.
In Kabete, Kiambu County, the Archdeacon of ACK, Rev. Richard Kamau, after addressing the issue of the release of capitation funds by the Ministry of Education, emphasized that if the funds were given in a timely manner, it would considerably reduce the burden of the parents and also prepare schools adequately for the 2026 academic calendar.
Education stakeholders in Nakuru County, where they had convened to celebrate the 2025 KJSEA candidates’ performance, also expressed similar views. They dared the government to provide schools with everything they need to be in line with the various senior school pathways that they are supposed to offer. They stressed that sufficient infrastructure and learning facilities are very important in empowering students to be able to follow careers that correspond to their natural abilities and interests.
In the meantime, at Kawangware Excellence Academy in Nairobi, the atmosphere was filled with jubilation and thrill after six Grade Nine students achieved remarkable results in the KJSEA. Top performers included Felix Okoth and Daniel Gaturu. Out of a maximum of 72 points, Felix and Daniel scored 65 and 64 points respectively.
While the country is celebrating the achievements of the last KJSEA candidates, education stakeholders are still holding their position that immediate policy clarity, sufficient funding, and infrastructure investment will be the main factors that will ensure the continuity of the success under the CBE system when students move to senior school in 2026.
