A brand-new reality talent show, Next Super Star, is ready to shake up the local entertainment scene as it premieres on Kenyan TV this May 3. The show, hosted by celebrated comedian Eddie Butita and seasoned media personality Amina Rabar, aims to uncover and elevate singing talent from Kenya and across East Africa.
Launched in Nairobi’s Upper Hill, the initiative is a major push to boost the country’s creative economy. Timothy Owase, CEO of the Kenya Film Commission, described the show as a “strategic investment” in youth and creativity, noting its potential to fuel economic and cultural development. “By emppowering talent, we’re shaping the future of our country,” Owase shared during the event.
Next Super Star comes with a hefty backing of over KSh100 million, underscoring its mission to create a meaningful impact in the entertainment industry. The show will feature 18 finalists competing for more than KSh1 million in prizes, national recognition, and personalised mentorship to fast-track their musical journeys.
The star-studded judging panel includes renowned artists King Kaka, Size 8 Reborn, and producer Motif the Don, all of whom are set to lend their expertise and star power to the contestants’ growth.
Viewers can expect a thrilling 26-episode season — with 13 live showdown episodes every week, paired with 13 behind-the-scenes midweek features showcasing contestant stories, challenges, and progress.
