The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has invited county administrations to step up their fight against corruption by putting in place stronger structures to protect public resources.

Dr. Emily Mworia, EACC Deputy Director for Education and Public Awareness, while speaking at a workshop hosted by the commission in partnership with a development partner, said that grassroots leaders must not only be at the forefront of the practice of integrity but they must also ensure through their example, that they put an end to the waste of resources. She further emphasized that the struggle against corruption calls for strong cooperation between leaders and the general public.

Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani who was present at the meeting, said that her administration had taken steps to decentralize services in order to increase openness in both procurement and service delivery, thus enhancing the quality of services.

Thomas Ansorg, GIZ Cluster Coordinator for Governance, Peace, and Security, said that they would be always ready to cooperate with the EACC at both county and national levels to work towards eradicating corruption.

The training was intended to provide the leaders with the practical skills necessary to enable them to recognize and expose the corruption risks that occur at the early stages of the devolved units.
