Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested three traffic police officers of Webuye Police Station for alleged bribery of motorists at a roadblock along Webuye-Kitale Road.

Public complaints, including those from the public service vehicle operators and heavy commercial truck drivers, formed the basis of the investigation that led to the arrests.

EACC said targeted surveillance found that the officers weren’t only demanding and taking bribes from the motorists but also not carrying out vehicle inspections and enforcement of traffic regulations at the same time.

Corporal Kipyego Metto and Police Constables Ben Kiptoo Maswai and Alex Kidui Makee are the three officers arrested and they’re all at Webuye Police Station.

The suspects were captured on Thursday and taken to EACC’s Western Regional Office in Bungoma for processing as further investigations are ongoing.

The Commission noted the operation are part of their continuous effort to uproot bribery from public service delivery points in the country to promote accountability and the provision of services without corruption.

Also, EACC said that it’s embarking on the gathering of intelligence and surveillance operations directed at those sectors and public institutions that remain most susceptible to bribery and other forms of corruption.
