Fans planning to attend the 2026 World Rally Championship Safari Rally have been warned not to carry drones or other restricted items to the event, as authorities move to tighten safety during the four-day competition.

The Ministry of Interior and National Administration released a list of rules and banned items ahead of the rally, which is taking place from March 12 to March 15 across different parts of the country.

According to the ministry, unauthorised drones are strictly prohibited at any spectator zone. Officials said flying drones near the rally stages could pose a serious safety risk to drivers and thousands of fans who gather along the route.

Flash photography has also been banned during the competition. Authorities explained that camera flashes can easily distract or momentarily blind drivers who are navigating the rally stages at very high speeds.

Spectators have also been warned not to stand on the rally road or attempt to cross it while a race stage is ongoing. Rally cars often move at speeds of more than 160 kilometres per hour, making such actions extremely dangerous.

Security officers have been deployed along the rally routes to ensure fans stay within designated spectator areas. Anyone found entering restricted or unsafe zones risks being removed from the event.

The ministry also cautioned fans against blocking emergency routes, noting that ambulances and rescue teams must have clear access in case of accidents during the rally.

Lighting fires and damaging the environment has also been listed among prohibited activities, especially because some rally stages pass through environmentally sensitive areas near the Maasai Mara ecosystem.

Authorities further warned that any form of disorderly behaviour will not be tolerated, and security personnel have the power to remove or arrest individuals who cause disturbances.

Fans attending the rally have been advised to arrive early since roads are usually closed before each race stage begins. They are also encouraged to park only in approved areas and watch the rally from clearly marked spectator zones.

Earlier, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) warned truck drivers against illegally parking along the busy Nairobi–Nakuru highway during the rally weekend, saying those who ignore the directive risk arrest.

Organisers have also encouraged spectators to carry water, sunscreen and comfortable footwear since the event involves spending long hours outdoors.

The Interior Ministry urged all fans to familiarise themselves with the official spectator safety guidelines, saying keeping the rally safe is the responsibility of everyone attending.
