Detectives in Murang’a County have launched a murder investigation after the body of a young boy was discovered in a thicket in the Kitini area of Kambiti on Saturday afternoon.
According to police, the decomposed body of the estimated seven-year-old boy was found wrapped in a piece of cloth and dumped in the bush, suggesting he may have been killed elsewhere before being abandoned at the scene.
The motive behind the suspected murder remains unknown, and no arrests had been made by Sunday evening.
“The condition of the body indicates it had been there for several days,” said a senior officer involved in the investigations. “We believe this is a murder case, and we’re pursuing leads to identify both the victim and those responsible.”
The boy’s identity had not been confirmed by the time of reporting. His body was moved to a local mortuary pending postmortem and forensic analysis, which police say will help determine the exact cause and timeline of death.
Area residents have expressed shock and concern over the grim discovery, calling on authorities to enhance security patrols and ensure the culprits are brought to justice.
