The National Criminal Investigations Academy (NCIA) has started a five-day workshop for middle-level commanders from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), focusing on leadership, accountability and professionalism.
The training, which runs from November 2 to 6, is being held in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
It is intended to strengthen commanders’ ability to lead investigations while observing the law and maintaining professional standards.
The training will include leadership and command within criminal investigations, such as the management of evidence and chain of custody. Officers will also talk about inter-agency cooperation, partnership management, and ethics.
According to NCIA Chief Instructor Solomon Musai on behalf of the DCI, middle-level commanders have an important role in translating policy and priorities from the institution into action.
“Effective command requires integrity, accountability and sound judgement in every stage of criminal investigations,” Musai said.
ICRC Head of Regional Delegation Marie Dubeau said the organisation remained committed to supporting professional development in law enforcement.
“Accountable leadership and respect for human dignity are essential to professional and effective law enforcement,” she said.
The academy said the workshop forms part of the DCI’s efforts to strengthen leadership and support professional, ethical and intelligence-led investigations.
