DCI Hosts German Police Team as Kenya Deepens Security Cooperation

The war against crime in Kenya has received a major boost as the country strengthened its security cooperation with Germany on Tuesday.

The move was evident as the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kenya met with a team of top officials from Germany to discuss their long-standing relationship in the war against crime in the country.

The team of top officials from Germany visited the headquarters of the DCI in Nairobi as a matter of courtesy and was received by Deputy Director John Onyango on behalf of Director Mohamed I. Amin.

The meeting was aimed at discussing the long-standing relationship between the DCI in Kenya and the Federal Criminal Police Office in Germany, which was first established in 2013.

The relationship has quietly improved the way in which investigations are carried out in the country over the years.

During the visit, Onyango acknowledged that the support of Germany in the war against crime in the country has borne fruit in many ways, particularly in the training and equipping of officers in the country.

A major beneficiary of this joint work has been the National Criminal Investigation Academy. It has received upgrades in all aspects, including new classrooms, renovated computer equipment, and a Crime Scene Simulation Room that allows officers to test real-life situations before they go out on the streets.

This collaboration has also been seen at the operational end. Police detectives have been assisted in matters such as cybercrime, anti-narcotics, and counter-terrorism. According to the DCI, the new equipment and technical assistance have enabled the officers to respond adequately to emerging security threats.

During the meeting, officials such as Director of Training Violet Makhanu and Deputy Director of Forensics Gillion Mwangi shared their experiences on how this collaboration has taken their agency to unprecedented heights.

The relationship between Kenya and Germany on security matters has endured for more than a decade, thus proving their mutual interest in continuing to work together in the war against crime.
