The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) handed Kenya Pipeline their first defeat of the season with a hard-fought 3-1 victory in the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Women’s National League match played yesterday at Nyayo Stadium’s outdoor court.
Bouncing back from their Saturday loss to former champions Kenya Prisons, DCI put on a determined display to halt Pipeline’s unbeaten streak.
The Oilers, fresh off a bronze-medal finish at the African Volleyball Club Championship in Abuja, Nigeria, were favourites heading into the match.
Pipeline started strongly, dominating early exchanges as DCI struggled to settle. However, the detectives rallied to snatch the first set 25-23.
Pipeline responded with a 25-21 win in the second set, leveling the match.
The third and fourth sets were tightly contested, with both teams exchanging points in a tense battle.
DCI showed greater resolve, taking the third set 25-20 before sealing the win with a narrow 25-23 victory in the fourth.
In other league developments, Kenya Prisons climbed to the top of the standings with 27 points from nine wins and one loss after Vihiga Volleyball Club failed to honour their scheduled fixture.
Defending champions KCB Bank are second with 26 points from eight wins and two losses, while Pipeline drops to third with 25 points.
The Oilers have now dropped five points — three from the DCI loss and two from narrow 3-2 wins over Prisons and KCB.
