Former Lugari Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister Cyrus Jirongo is dead.
Jirongo perished in a freak road accident in Naivasha along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway when his Mercedes-Benz car collided with a 45-seater passenger bus at 3am on Saturday, December 13.
Rift Valley Traffic Enforcement Officer Sarah Chumo said the former KANU bigwig died on the spot following the impact.
Jirongo served as Minister for Rural Development between March 2002 and December 2002 during Kenya’s second president Daniel Moi’s era.
He served as Member of Parliament for Lugari Constituency between 1997 and 2002 and between 2007 and 2013.
In 2022, he unsuccessfully vied for the Kakamega gubernatorial seat, where he lost to Fernandes Barasa.
