Energy cabinet secretary Opiyo Wandayi has been ordered to appear before members of parliament tomorrow, Thursday, April 9, amidst ongoing investigations over the importation of substandard fuel worth Ksh4.8 billion.
Wandayi has been summoned to appear before the energy committee in the national assembly to address queries concerning fuel imports and the current state of fuel supplies.
This comes after he was ordered to answer questions related to fuel imports worth Ksh4.8 billion which have been accused of being substandard and not meeting required standards.
The cabinet secretary will be expected to show up together with the KPC and EPRA officials, as parliamentarians look forward to getting clarifications regarding what has happened.
Citizens are already facing pressure at gas stations in several towns in the country. There has been chaos at petrol stations as people queue for fuel amid fears of shortages. According to reports, motorists have been queuing in Nairobi and some stations have slowed down fuel sales while others are out of stock.
On the other hand, some of the service stations have even opted to sell just premium fuel, which is quite costly with prices rising to around Ksh200 per litre.
The fuel station owners claim there has been a delay in deliveries over the past few days, thus making it difficult for them to cater for increased demands in times of panic buying.
Meanwhile, calls have continued demanding that Wandayi steps down amidst ongoing investigations regarding the fuel importation scandal.
Boni Khalwale claimed that those involved should be made accountable.
Nonetheless, the Orange Democratic Movement insists that Wandayi is not guilty until proven so while also advising the citizens to be patient as the investigations are being done before holding anyone guilty, and whoever they may be.
So far, the matter seems to have spiraled out of control with some of the stations displaying “No Fuel” banners as more issues arise on the matter.
