Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, EGH, has invited Kenyans and international visitors to take part in the Maa Cultural Week Festival, a celebration of the rich heritage and traditions of the Maasai community.

The annual festival, which will be held from November 4 to 9, 2025, brings together Maasai communities from Kenya and Tanzania for a week-long cultural extravaganza showcasing music, dance, art, fashion, and storytelling.

“This festival is phenomenal in boosting domestic tourism by showcasing Kenya’s rich cultural heritage,” said CS Miano, adding that such events highlight the diversity that defines the country’s tourism appeal.

Key highlights of the festival will include traditional dance and music performances, with Maasai warriors and women presenting the famous Adumu (jumping dance), accompanied by rhythmic chants and drumbeats. Visitors will also experience exhibitions of intricate beadwork, leather crafts, and handmade ornaments, each piece reflecting deep cultural symbolism.

A cultural fashion show will display the colorful elegance of Maasai attire — from the iconic shukas to elaborate beaded jewelry — while storytelling sessions by community elders will offer insights into the Maasai’s oral traditions and worldview.

The festival will also feature cultural workshops where participants can learn about Maasai customs, language, and cuisine, alongside conservation discussions underscoring the community’s long-standing role in protecting the environment and coexisting with wildlife.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, the Maa Cultural Week not only celebrates identity but also promotes cross-cultural understanding, supports local economies through tourism and crafts, and reinforces efforts to preserve Kenya’s intangible cultural heritage.

Kenya’s diverse cultures remain central to its tourism identity, and the Maa Cultural Week stands as a vibrant reminder of the country’s unity through heritage.
