Parents are being encouraged to enroll their children in technical colleges to equip them with essential skills needed in today’s competitive job market.

Speaking at a talent search event held at Sunrise Training College in Thika on Sunday, East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Maina Karobia underscored the significance of technical education in addressing the skills gap among young people.

“We must invest in education that guarantees employment opportunities. Technical skills are highly sought after, and institutions like Sunrise Training College are instrumental in preparing young people for the job market,” Karobia remarked.

The event attracted hundreds of young talents and saw 17 needy students awarded full scholarships to pursue computer courses at the college, courtesy of the MP and the institution’s management.

One of the event’s highlights was the competitive Mr. and Miss Sunrise College contest, where students showcased their creativity and artistic talents.

Karobia reaffirmed his commitment to supporting youth in acquiring skills that enhance their employability.

“We believe in creating platforms that allow young people to express themselves artistically while also gaining vital technical skills. I will continue supporting such initiatives to nurture and empower them,” he stated.

He also referenced the Talanta Hela Digital Hub, launched in October 2023, as another vital initiative providing training and mentorship programs for young talents, helping them build successful careers.

Sunrise Training College Director, Ms. Joyce Murabu, expressed her gratitude for the support given to the students and the institution.

“This initiative is a game-changer, providing young people with access to quality education and marketable skills essential in today’s competitive landscape,” she noted.

She urged the youth to prioritize their education, emphasizing its role as a pathway to a better future.

“Education is the key to success. This event reaffirms our dedication to bridging educational and artistic development gaps through talent search programs and technical training,” she added.

The Talent Search Event highlighted the growing commitment to youth empowerment by integrating education, creativity, and career development to uplift young people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
