Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale today held high-level consultations with representatives of various health workers’ unions at Afya House, Nairobi, as the government intensifies efforts to resolve the ongoing industrial action affecting Universal Health Coverage (UHC) services.
The meeting, described as frank and solution-oriented, aimed to address pressing concerns raised by unionized UHC workers and chart a path toward restoring normalcy in public health facilities.
CS Duale reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to upholding the welfare of health workers, pledging to fully implement all previously agreed-upon resolutions with the unions. He acknowledged the critical role unions play in championing workers’ rights and strengthening health service delivery.
“We recognize health workers as the backbone of UHC. Our approach is rooted in collaboration and open dialogue. Only through partnership can we deliver the quality care Kenyans deserve,” said CS Duale.
Present at the meeting were key union leaders including Dr. Patrick Amoth, Director of Medical Services; Seth Panyako, Secretary General of the Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN); George Gibore, Secretary General of the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO); Brown Ashira, Secretary General of the Kenya Environmental Health and Public Health Practitioners Union (KEHPHPU); Peterson Wachira, Chair of KUCO; and Pius Nyakundi, Secretary General of the Kenya National Union of Medical Laboratory Officers (KNUMLO).
The discussions mark a renewed push by the Ministry of Health to stabilize the health sector and ensure uninterrupted delivery of essential services under the UHC framework.
