The County Commanders Strategic Leadership Course No. 1/2025 was officially closed on April 25, 2025, at the National Police Leadership Academy (NPLA) in Ngong’, with the Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service, Mr. Gilbert Masengeli, presiding over the ceremony.
The five-week intensive course, which began on March 21, 2025, brought together 78 senior commanders, including 38 officers from the Kenya Police Service, 19 from the Administration Police Service, and 20 from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
This course marks a significant step in the National Police Service’s mission to cultivate a cadre of leaders with strategic insight, operational expertise, and strong ethical foundations.
The goal is to transform policing and ensure that each police station becomes a center of operational excellence.
The curriculum provided a comprehensive training experience that covered a wide range of topics, including leadership theories and styles, protective and border security, investigative management, performance appraisal systems, countering violent extremism, and inter-agency collaboration.
In his speech on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja, Mr. Masengeli congratulated the participants on their successful completion of the course.
He emphasized that the program was designed to challenge conventional thinking, sharpen strategic minds, and enhance the command capacity of those responsible for safeguarding communities.
The National Police Service remains committed to fostering leadership, enhancing strategic thinking, and promoting inter-agency collaboration through continued multi-disciplinary engagement.
Also in attendance were Mr. Patrick Tito, Principal Deputy to the DIG-KPS, Mr. John Onyango, Deputy DCI, Mr. David K. Mathiu, Commandant NPLA, Mr. Rem Mutabari, Commandant Administration Police Service Leadership and Sports Centre, Dr. David Muthondeki, Deputy Commandant NPLA, Madam Sicily Gatiti, Dean of Studies NPLA, and Mr. Geoffrey Kathurima, Director, Research, Planning and Development, NPLA.
