Kenyan workers have pledged their support for the Social Health Authority (SHA), with the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU-K) affirming its commitment to safeguarding members’ health benefits.

COTU Secretary General Dr. Francis Atwoli, who represents workers on the SHA board, said the authority is taking a firm stance against fraud, warning that health facilities involved in malpractice risk closure or downgrading.

“SHA is operating under a strict zero-tolerance policy. Fraudulent claims will not be entertained, and those engaging in the practice will face decisive action,” Dr. Atwoli said.

To bolster accountability, SHA has set up a dedicated toll-free line, 147 (Mulika Mwizi), where cases of malpractice can be reported anonymously.

Workers have been urged to continue accessing SHA services while remaining vigilant against abuse of the system. “We encourage workers to report any suspicious or fraudulent activity to protect the integrity of the scheme,” Dr. Atwoli added.

COTU also expressed solidarity with Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and President William Ruto, backing their efforts to ensure the authority delivers quality healthcare for Kenyan workers.
