Health services in public facilities across the country will be back to normal within the next 24 hours. This follows the signing of a retur-to-work agreement by the Council of Governors (CoG) and the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO), which brought an end to a 36-day nationwide strike.

The agreement was reached on Wednesday at the CoG headquarters in Nairobi after negotiations between county governments and union officials. It allows for the immediate redeployment of clinical officers to health facilities.

In a press statement after the signing, KUCO Secretary General and Nandi Governor Stephen Sang said that both sides had agreed on the major issues that had resulted in the strike.

He confirmed the agreement entails the signing of the long, pending Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the integration of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) workers into permanent and pensionable terms, as well as the payment and integration of clinical officers who were previously Global Fund, supported.

“The return- to-work agreement addresses the fundamental concerns raised by our members and lays out a definitive plan for the overall welfare of clinical officers in the country, ” said Sang.

Through the Council of Governors, county governments pledged to honour the agreed resolutions within the stipulated timeframes, with further guarantees that no clinical officer will be that way.
