Chief Justice Martha Koome is set to preside over the swearing-in ceremony of two Judicial Service Commission (JSC) commissioners on Wednesday morning.

Lady Justice Njoki Ndungu was recently elected by judges of the Supreme Court to represent them at the commission. Chief Magistrate Everlyne Olwande was meanwhile re-elected for a second term by members of the Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association, following the expiry of her first five-year term on Thursday.

The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the JSC offices at the CBK Pension Towers in Nairobi at 8am.

The Judicial Service Commission is an independent constitutional body established under Article 171 of the Constitution of Kenya. It plays a central role in promoting the independence and accountability of the Judiciary.

Among its key functions are the recruitment and discipline of judicial officers, oversight of judicial training, and advising the government on reforms aimed at improving the administration of justice.

The swearing-in of the two commissioners is expected to strengthen the commission’s mandate as it continues to steer judicial reforms and safeguard the independence of the courts.
