Miriam Chebet delivered a dominant performance at the BingwaFest Nyanza Region edition on Thursday, clinching victories in both the 5,000m and 10,000m races at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium in Siaya.

Chebet, who had finished second at the same venue during the national BingwaFest championships in April, claimed her first gold of the day in the 10,000m with a time of 32:47.03. She narrowly edged out Daisila Jerono (32:48.01), while Caren Chebet secured third place in 32:52.0.

She returned to the track for the 5,000m and once again held off Jerono in a thrilling sprint finish, clocking 15:54.06 to Jerono’s 15:54.09. Abigael Chepkoech completed the podium in 15:56.01.

In the men’s events, defending national champion Titus Kiprotich stayed on track to retain his title with a hard-fought win in the 10,000m, stopping the clock at 28:29.8. He was followed closely by John Lomoni (28:30.4) and Shadrack Kipngetich (28:33.1).

Amos Kipkemoi emerged victorious in the men’s 5,000m, finishing in 13:40.05. Festus Kiprop (13:42.00) and Felix Kibet (13:59.03) came in second and third respectively.

The 1500m races were equally competitive. In the women’s race, Purity Chepkirui took the win in 4:08.06, ahead of Faith Chebet (4:09.05) and Nelly Jepkosgei (4:15.07). The men’s race saw a nail-biting finish, with Josphat Kipkirui taking the title in 3:40.00, narrowly beating Danson Kiplangat (3:40.02) and Justice Kipkoech (3:40.06).

Sprinter Wiseman Were, recently back from setting a personal best in the 400m hurdles at the World Championships in Tokyo, switched to the 100m — and didn’t disappoint.
