President William Ruto has asked the police to thoroughly investigate the murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were.

Were was shot dead on the evening of Wednesday, April 30, along Ngong Road, near the City Mortuary roundabout.

In his message of condolence, President Ruto insisted that those involved in the shooting of the MP must face the full force of the law.

"May God grant the family and the people of Kasipul strength to bear with the loss of Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were. We urge the police to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident. Those responsible must be held to account," said President Ruto.

How was Charles Ong’ondo Were killed

In the shooting incident, as narrated by Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, at around 7:30 pm, a white Toyota Crown vehicle carrying Were stopped at a red traffic light on Ngong Road, near the City Mortuary roundabout.

A motorcycle carrying a rider and a pillion passenger then stopped alongside the car.

The pillion passenger, in turn, approached the vehicle and fired shots at the passenger side before jumping back onto the motorcycle and speeding away.

The driver of the car and a male passenger, who were both unharmed, immediately rushed MP Were to Nairobi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said the nature of the crime appears to be both targeted and premeditated.
