In a u-turn from earlier plans, the body of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will overnight at Lee Funeral Home, instead of at his Karen residence as initially scheduled.

The change was announced on Friday by the national funeral committee, co-chaired by Dr. Kithure Kindiki, the Deputy President, and Raila’s older brother, Dr. Oburu Odinga.

The committee reported that they made the change due to “unavoidable circumstances,” but no further details were given.

Once the public viewing currently underway at Nyayo National Stadium, the body will be returned to Lee Funeral Home to be preserved before the journey to Kisumu tomorrow morning,” a portion of the statement released by ODM Party stated.

Initially, Raila’s body was to be left overnight at his home in Karen following Thursday morning arrival at JKIA. The revised itinerary will have the mourners in Nairobi give the final goodbyes during the day, before it is transported early Saturday morning.

The committee issued an apology for any inconvenience that the reforms may cause and expressed appreciation to the public for their continued support as the nation gets ready to celebrate one of its most influential political figures.
