A Nairobi-based cargo firm has threatened to auction 13 containers carrying aircraft spares due to a debt of more than KSh6.6 million, which has been accumulating because the owner failed to collect the goods.

The firm, which operates a container freight station yard along the Old Mombasa Road, has said it will auction the goods if the owner does not come forward and pay the debt. The firm issued a gazette notice on March 19, giving the owner a chance to come and clear the debt, which currently stands at KSh6,683,528.

The notice states that the debt has been accumulating because the owner has not come to collect the goods, which have been at the firm’s yard for some time. The firm gave the owner a 30-day notice, which has already expired. The firm has now issued a new notice giving the owner up to April 10 to come and pay the debt. If the owner does not come and pay the debt, the firm will be forced to auction the goods.

“Failure to take delivery and settle all outstanding charges by 10th April 2026 will see us dispose of the goods,” the notice states.

If the deadline is not met, the auction will take place on July 10, with bidding beginning at 9:00am.

All of the containers have spare parts for the British Aerospace ATP aircraft. Each container is 40 feet long, weighs between four and 13 tonnes, and there are a total of over 100 tonnes of cargo.

The spare parts are not common, as they are for an old type of plane that still flies in some areas of Africa. This means that there could be interest from aviation companies.

The firm said that the money will first be used to pay for the cost of storing the goods, followed by the cost of the auction, with the remaining amount being dealt with as required by law.
