Businessman and politician Zedekiah Bundotich Kiprop, popularly known as Buzeki, has officially joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), marking a major political shift ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Friday, September 12, 2025, Buzeki expressed joy at his new political home, saying his decision was informed by the government’s recent achievements.

“As a new UDA member, I am happy to be back home. I acknowledge what UDA has done, and I want to be part of it,” he said.

The former critic of President William Ruto was formally welcomed into the party on Thursday, September 11, 2025, when UDA Vice Chairperson Hassan Omar received a delegation from Uasin Gishu County led by the industrialist.

Buzeki cited improved economic stability and reforms under the current administration as the reason behind his change of heart.

“The president has done his job well—the dollar rate has dropped, people’s living conditions have improved, and the country’s economy is on the right track. As a businessman, I can say the transformation of our economy is evident,” he noted.

Rift Valley Politics Stirred

The defection has sparked debate across the North Rift and particularly in Uasin Gishu County, where Buzeki has twice unsuccessfully contested for the gubernatorial seat.

While some of his supporters welcomed the move as a fresh chapter in his political journey, others questioned whether joining UDA would strengthen or weaken his influence ahead of 2027.

Former Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter, however, distanced himself from the move. Taking to X on Thursday, Keter wrote:

“For avoidance of doubt, I am not boarding! Wantam Is Wantam!”
