BB Bread head coach Ajastine Okoba has revealed that they did their homework well before facing Gor Mahia in the FKF Cup.
The little-known side beat the record Kenyan champions 1-0 to eliminate them for the competition on Sunday afternoon.
It was the second momentous result for the Kayole-based side this year after beating Gor Mahia’s rivals, AFC Leopards, in the previous round.
Denis Muthini came from the bench to conjure the all-important goal in the 84th minute to shock K’Ogalo.
Okoba revealed that they were wary of the threat Gor Mahia possessed despite their head coach Charles Akonnor making 10 changes.
“That’s why we were so defensive. It is because of the respect we gave Gor Mahia as a big team. We have been analysing Gor Mahia’s games, and we have gotten what we wanted,” he said.
“In the first half, we had to sit back and build our confidence, but when we returned for the second half, we knew the pressure would be on Gor Mahia to score, and that would leave gaps for us to exploit.”
BB Bread will now proceed to the Round of 16 where the defending champions Nairobi United, Kenya Police, Shabana and Kakamega Homeboyz are among the heavyweights remaining.
The winner of the competition will receive KSh 3 million and represent the county in the CAF Confederations Cup next season.
