The Los Angeles Lakers have re-signed Austin Reaves on a contract that has him sign a four year, $185 million contract extension that will cement him in the NBA history.
The deal, which includes an option for the 2029-30 seasons, makes Reaves the highest paid player ever. He previously declined a $ 14.9 million player option for the new max deal.
Reaves began his journey in Newmark, Arkansas, before joining the Lakers in Los Angeles, marking him the most reliable scorer. His breakthrough came in 2025-26 season, where he averaged 23.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game, showcasing not only his scoring touch but ability to lead under pressure.
He reached this contract status after a season in which his profile for the first time resembled that of a player from the upper tier of NBA guards. He is one of the players with whom the offense can be initiated, slowed down, sped up and maintained when the first option is not available or when the defense forces the team toward secondary solutions.
The Lakers’ move to secure Reaves has ensured he remains a pillar of their roster alongside Luka Doncic. With his strong performances on the court have allowed him connect with fans, making him well-known and loved in Los Angeles.
The Lakers believe Reaves is a player worth building with, not just a name but of his strategic in games.
