Kenyan police recovered 3. 6 tons of homemade alcohol and closed down an unlicensed distillery during a raid on the Soweto slum in Kahawa West of Nairobi.
As part of the operation to eliminate illicit alcohol and narcotic drugs in the area, police from the Nairobi North Sub-Region, Kahawa West Police Station arrested several people on the spot.
The police discovered and seized 3, 500 liters of the strong indigenous spirit Kangara 100 liters of the distilled drink called Chang’aa, and several brewing machines used for making the homemade alcohol.
Police said the operation successfully dismantled an active distillation site as part of ongoing efforts to curb the manufacture and distribution of illicit brews.
NPS acknowledged the general public that gave vital support to their operation and reiterated that it’s the police who will be taking the lead in all the remaining crackdowns throughout the country.
The National Police Service commended members of the public for providing information that supported the operation and reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining similar crackdowns across the country.
