The National Assembly Committee on Cohesion and Equal Opportunities has been angered by a decision by the Managing Director (MD) of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) Mr. Henry Ogoye to skip the meeting on staffing establishment.
In a meeting chaired by Hon Yussuf Adan Haji at Bunge Towers on Thursday, the MPs put on notice the KAA Chief for not honouring the invite by the Committee to respond to employment diversity in the organisation.
"The Committee is not happy with Mr. Ogoye for failing to appear today despite him giving today's date for his appearance during the last meeting we had with him," said Hon Haji.
Nakuru County MP, Hon. Liza Chelule, the Committee’s vice chairperson, questioned why the MD had not sent an apology.
"The decision by the MD to go silent amounts to him disrespecting the Committee and we will not take the matter lightly," said Hon. Chelule.
She added that cases of witnesses skipping meetings were on the rise and warned those with such tendencies that action would be taken.
Hon. Charles Were (Kaspul) said stern action should be taken against the MD, noting that he had no respect for the Committee.
"In the invitation letter sent to the MD the Committee clearly indicated that he should avail supportive documents to his submission two days before his appearance. We have not received such documents neither has he appeared before the Committee," he said.
Hon. Martins Owino noted that the law allowed the Committee to take strict measures against absentee officers as he called for action against the MD.
The Committee resolved to surmon Mr. Ogoye.
The Inspector General (IG) of the National Police Service Mr Douglas Kanja who was also scheduled to appear before the Committee did not do so.
He however sent apologies.
