An Air India flight en route to London from Ahmedabad with 242 people on board has crashed.
According to FlightRadar, the flight, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, departed from Ahmedabad International Airport at 9.50 on Thursday and was scheduled to arrive at London Gatwick Airport at 18.25, but the signal from the plane was lost a minute after take off.
International outlets are reporting that the plane, after reaching an altitude of 625 feet, crashed into a building within the Meghani Nagar area, close to the airport premises.
Images seen by TUKIO.co.ke showed aircraft debris lying on the rooftop of a residential structure.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the number of injuries or fatalities.
Families of passengers have gathered at the airport and nearby hospitals, anxiously seeking information about their loved ones.
