AFC Leopards have been expelled from the Mozzart Bet Cup by the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee, following a meeting held on Wednesday.

The decision comes after the abandonment of their Round of 32 match against Mara Sugar FC, which took place on Saturday, March 8, in Kisumu.

The match was called off after AFC Leopards fans stormed the pitch in protest of a penalty decision made in the final minutes of the game.

The controversy began when AFC Leopards were awarded a penalty for an alleged handball inside the box.

However, following protests from Mara Sugar players, the referee consulted his assistant and overturned the decision. This sparked an angry reaction from AFC Leopards fans, who invaded the pitch and confronted the referee.

The committee ruled that the actions of AFC Leopards’ supporters were responsible for the match’s abandonment.

As a result, the club has been eliminated from the competition. Additionally, the club received a warning to address the behavior of their fans in future matches.

AFC Leopards fans caused the ban.

“The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Leagues & Competitions Committee has issued a ruling on the abandoned Mozzart Bet Cup match between Mara Sugar FC and AFC Leopards SC, scheduled for Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo, Kisumu,” the FKF statement read. “The match was halted in the 89th minute due to AFC Leopards fans invading the pitch in protest of the referee’s decision to rescind the penalty.”

Mara Sugar FC will now advance to the Round of 16, where they will face Compel FC.
