The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit has ordered a Bungoma ACK church to return the KSh 5 million President William Ruto donated to it on Sunday, December 1.
President Ruto made the donation to the Crispinus Anglican Church through Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka.
During a press briefing by the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) on Tuesday, Ole Sapit regretted the Bungoma bishop’s acceptance of the funds.
The archbishop said the church’s doctrines do not allow the donation of funds from unclear sources, and so the KSh 5 million from President Ruto should be returned.
Ole Sapit argued that the donation was meant to mock the ACK church after the Catholic church rejected the president’s donation to a Nairobi church.
"What happened in Bungoma was unfortunate because it was like a display of trying to see what the Anglican church will do following the decision by the Catholics," said Ole Sapit.
