Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr Ouma Oluga has called for better coordination of development partner investments so that resources are aligned to Kenya’s health priorities and hasten the realisation of UHC.

Speaking during a meeting with the 2026/27
Development Partners for Health in Kenya (DPHK) Executive Committee at Afya House Nairobi, Oluga underscored the need for a government-led partnership agreement that is anchored on transparency, harmonized investments and mutual accountability.

The delegation led by DPHK Chairperson Luigi D’Aquino conveyed the DPHK strategy and discussed how to work more closely with the Ministry of Health.

Oluga requested development partners to coordinate with the existing services structures, mainly the joint sector working group based on the principle of one plan, one budget, and one M&E setup.

He noted that this strategy would boost how external resources are used and how governments implement their development programmes.

Other issues addressed included sustainable health financing, primary healthcare, digital public infrastructure, UHC reforms, and the Kenya Health Policy Platform.

The interaction is part of the Ministry’s end-term review of the Kenya Health Policy 2014 2030, which will inform the formulation of a new policy beyond 2030.

Oluga reinforced the the importance of shared priorities, and support mutual accountability, to ensure the best use of the available resources in effort to establish an efficient and sustainable health system that is capable to ease and respond to potential health emergencies.
