Kenya concluded their campaign in the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup with a 2-1 victory over Mexico in their final Group C match at the Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, yesterday.

Valerie Nekesa and Lornah Faith scored for Kenya in the 15th and 36th minutes, respectively, securing a commendable win.

Mexico’s Alexa Soto managed to score a late goal, narrowing the deficit as the match drew to a close.

Lornah Faith’s impressive performance earned her the Player of the Match award. Mexico’s coach, Rojas Jimena, acknowledged the strength of the Kenyan team, stating, “My young squad aimed for victory, but a few defensive errors cost us.

I commend Kenya for their beautiful goals; their players have potential for the future if they continue to develop.”

Kenya’s coach, Mildred Cheche, expressed her satisfaction with the win: “We’re thrilled with this victory; at least we’re leaving with points and an individual accolade.”

She emphasized the importance of continued support for the team, urging the federation and government to facilitate more international friendlies and tournaments for greater exposure.
