A Somali national has been fined KSh370,000 by the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Law Courts after pleading guilty to three offences involving unlawful presence in Kenya and the fraudulent acquisition of Kenyan identity and passport documents.
Mohamud Mohammed Roble was arrested after detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), through Immigration and Citizen Services Investigations, took over his case from immigration officials at JKIA.
Investigations established that Roble had obtained Kenyan registration documents before securing a Kenyan passport through false declarations.
He was subsequently charged in court, where he pleaded guilty to all three counts brought against him.
The court fined him KSh150,000 for unlawfully being present in Kenya, another KSh150,000 for making a false declaration to obtain a Kenyan passport, and KSh70,000 for knowingly presenting an identity card containing false entries with the intention of deceiving authorities.
The sentences provide for imprisonment if he fails to pay the respective fines.
The court further directed that Roble be repatriated to Somalia upon payment of the fines.
His fraudulently obtained Kenyan passport was also ordered surrendered to the Director General of Immigration Services for destruction.
The DCI said it remains committed to protecting the integrity of Kenya’s identity and travel documents through collaboration with relevant agencies to detect and prosecute individuals who use fraudulent documentation to circumvent the law.
